MY KIND OF JOYFUL
As a maximalist interior designer, I've always believed in the transformative power of colour and pattern. Bedding felt like the natural place to start, it's the single easiest way to transform a room, and unlike a wall or a sofa, you can change it with the seasons, your mood, or simply when you fancy a fresh hit of colour.
I'm always led by a floral, flowers are nature at its most flamboyant, and they're the beating heart of everything I design. This collection plays them against something more structured: stripes. That friction between a smart stripe and a loose, expressive floral is what gives the range its energy. You'll see it running through coordinating sheets and the reversible bed throw.
How to style the collection
Pick a pattern
Prefer a more coordinated look? Choose one pattern and really embrace it. Darling Ditsy Floral lets you match your fitted sheet and pillowcases with your duvet, while Sophie Stripe can be layered for a smart, all-over stripe. Personally, I love mixing things up. Try a floral sheet with a striped duvet, then bring the ditsy back in with a cushion to create a visual link.
Double up your pillows
I love a double bed with four pillows. Our duvet sets come with two matching pillowcases, but you can add another pair in a contrasting design for an unexpected hit of pattern. The separate pillowcase sets also coordinate with the fitted sheets, so you can choose to match them or deliberately clash them. For me, that little bit of unexpected pattern is what makes a bed feel interesting and individually styled.
Contrasting layers
When making the bed, fold down the top edge of your duvet to reveal a strip of contrasting pattern underneath, Flourish Floral and Sophie Stripe are particularly good for this. It also gives you a glimpse of the fitted sheet below, which is exactly why I love a patterned fitted sheet, another opportunity to sneak in an extra flourish of colour and pattern.
Finish with scatter cushions
Cushions are the finishing touch that make a bed feel properly dressed. I like to layer a large square at the back with an oblong cushion in front, to play with shape and scale. For a calmer look, create symmetry with matching pairs or mix your cushions for something more eclectic and visually busy. I'm always going to be tempted by the latter.
Take the pattern beyond the bed
Use your bedlinen as the starting point for the rest of your scheme. Pull out colours and motifs and repeat them elsewhere in the room, fresh flowers, a coordinating lampshade, a painted bedside table or a collection of floral pictures will help connect everything together. You don't need everything to match, just repeat a few colours.
