After years of visiting Marrakech, leading interior design retreats and filling more suitcases than I care to admit, I’ve developed a little black book of favourite shops, artisans and makers that I return to time and time again.
Marrakech isn’t just a holiday destination for me. It’s one of the biggest creative influences on my work and personal style. The city celebrates everything I love about interiors: colour, craftsmanship, pattern, texture and the joy of surrounding yourself with beautiful things that tell a story.
I fell in love with Marrakech the first time I stepped into the souk and felt completely, gloriously overwhelmed. Every surface seemed to be competing for attention. Intricate zellige tiles, towering brass lanterns, embroidered textiles, baskets overflowing with spices and rose petals. It was sensory overload in the very best possible way.
That’s the magic of Marrakech. It has never subscribed to the idea that less is more. Instead, it celebrates abundance, creativity and self-expression. If you’re a maximalist at heart, this city will feel like coming home. Whether you’re searching for vintage Moroccan rugs, handcrafted ceramics, brass lanterns, colourful fashion or one-of-a-kind treasures for your home, these are the places I recommend most often.
Pack light. And if you are wondering about bring an extra empty suitcase. Trust me, bring it!
The rugs in Soufny GalleryRugs
Let’s get straight to the one thing most people ask me when planning a shopping in Marrakech, the wonderful array of authentic Moroccan Berber rugs, both vintage and contemporary. There are hundreds of sellers across the city selling a wide rage of qualities. But if you are looking for quality and authenticity I have two recommendations for you.
Soufny Art Gallery
If you only visit one specialist rug dealer in the medina, make it Ibrahim Noubl at Soufny Art gallery.
Even if you’re not actively looking for a rug, this is an education in Moroccan craftsmanship. Ibrahim is a true curator, sourcing exceptional vintage Boujad rugs in faded rose and terracotta tones, beautifully textured Beni Ouarain rugs and intricate flatweave kilims bursting with colour and geometric pattern.
What I love most is the storytelling. Every piece comes with a history, a place and often the story of the family who made it. It’s impossible not to leave inspired. It is located at 18 Rue Sidi el Yamani is open 11am to midnight daily.

Studio Lid
One of my favourite stops in Sidi Ghanem, Studio Lid is a family-run business producing some of the finest contemporary Moroccan rugs available today. Their collections are supplied to interior designers around the world and can be commissioned in bespoke sizes, making them ideal for larger open-plan spaces. Don’t miss the first floor, a wonderfully organised treasure trove of vintage rugs, all arranged by colour. If you’re searching for something specific in both size, colour and design, this is the place to find it. It is located at 280 Rue Principale, Sidi Ghanem, Marrakech.

Me browsing the gorgeous ceramics at Serghini Pottery
Ceramics
My first piece of advice when shopping for ceramics in Marrakech is simple: put your map away.
The medina is full of tiny workshops and hidden stores selling beautiful hand-painted ceramics or the iconic Tamegrout pottery. The wandering is part of the experience, so head for the Souk Fekharine, or The Potters souk, and allow yourself to get lost as every alleyway reveals something unexpected.
Serghini Pottery
A visit to Serghini is a must for anyone who loves Moroccan ceramics. This family-run pottery business has been producing its iconic hand-painted designs in Safi for generations and is widely regarded as one of Morocco’s finest ceramic makers. You can visit their small factory and showroom in Sidi Ghanem, where shelves are stacked high with platters, vases and tableware fresh from production. Buying directly from the factory floor makes the experience feel all the more special.
LRNCE
Founded by Belgian designer Laurence Leenaert, LRNCE has become one of Marrakech’s most influential contemporary design studios. Her hand-painted ceramics are instantly recognisable, combining playful abstract motifs with traditional Moroccan craftsmanship. The showroom is a beautifully curated space filled with ceramics, textiles and artworks that blur the line between craft and contemporary art. A must-visit for design lovers looking for something truly original.

Hand-painted with playful colours and amusing typography, each piece feels like a small work of art. If you’re looking for a modern alternative to traditional Moroccan pottery, this is one of the most exciting ceramic collections in the city.

Tiles at Popham Design
Tiles
Popham Design
Anyone planning a renovation should make a pilgrimage to Popham Design, who have a beautiful range of designs ready to ship or you can commission your own small batch design. Visits are by appointment.
Based in Marrakech, this American couple have reimagined traditional encaustic cement tiles through a contemporary lens, creating some of the most exciting geometric tile designs you’ll find anywhere in the world. The colours are bold without feeling trendy and the patterns strike that perfect balance between modern and timeless.
I’ve seen Popham tiles transform kitchens, bathrooms, and hallways, proof that a striking statement floor or splashback can become the star of a scheme.

The array of Lanterns at Maison Blaoui
Lanterns
Souk Haddadine & Mouassine
If you’re searching for the iconic brass lanterns Marrakech is famous for, head to Souk Haddadine, the city’s historic blacksmiths’ quarter. Here you’ll find artisans still shaping, piercing and polishing lanterns by hand. For the most spectacular displays, wander into neighbouring Mouassine, where shopfronts overflow with hanging lamps in every size imaginable. My advice? Look up. Some of the best lanterns are hanging high above your head.
Maison Blaoui
If there is one shop that perfectly captures the theatrical spirit of Marrakech, it’s Maison Blaoui. Walking through the doors feels like stepping onto a film set. Every corner is piled high with lanterns, furniture, antiques, decorative objects and treasures collected from across Morocco.
The lighting selection alone is worth the visit. Brass, coloured glass, silver, iron, giant statement pendants and tiny jewel-like lamps. It’s maximalist heaven. Even if you buy nothing, you’ll leave with a head full of ideas.

Hanout Boutique in the medina
Fashion
Marrakech has become one of my favourite places to shop for clothes, and the fashion scene is just taking off in the most amazing way. You have big labels like Marrakshi Life
Hanout
Hanout combines effortless glamour with exceptional tailoring. Designer Meriem Nour creates pieces full of colour and personality that somehow feel both contemporary and timeless.
If you have time, visit the atelier and have something customised. It’s one of the most special fashion experiences in Marrakech.
El Fenn Boutique
Curated by interior designer and tastemaker Yann Dobry, the El Fenn Boutique is one of Marrakech’s most stylish fashion destinations. Expect a carefully edited collection of colourful kaftans, Mademoiselle Sahana shirts (I have many), Res Ipsa jackets, artisan jewellery, Ourika bags and caps. The perfect place to discover contemporary pieces that capture the creative spirit of Marrakech.
Lalla
For colourful resort wear and some of the most beautiful and colourful contemporary bags, head to Lalla. The colour palettes are always spot on and their jackets strike that perfect balance between effortless and super cool.
Slippers, Tassels and Souk Treasures
Some of my favourite purchases in Marrakech cost less than lunch.
Colourful babouche slippers, oversized tassels, pom-pom trimmed baskets can all be found throughout the medina. These are the details that instantly add personality to a home. Drape tassels over door handles, style them on curtain tiebacks or simply pile them into bowls as decoration.
My advice? Don’t overthink it. If it makes you smile, buy it.
