At last that burst of warm spring weather is here in the UK and it feels like we can all do a collective exhale. I’ve jumped on it, the doors are flung open, windows cracked wide and my home feels lighter, brighter and life, once again, is full of possibility.
While the sun shines, I’ve been washing duvets, airing throws, and giving my wardrobe a proper seasonal edit. Curiously every year, without fail, I find myself craving less rather than more. Fewer cushions, clearer surfaces, and lighter layers. Maybe it’s about creating a sense of space to think and breathe and welcome in something new.
A spring home refresh isn’t always about redecorating, (although I do have some plans afoot, but that’s for another day!). It’s more about making simple, intentional changes that shift the energy of your space and make your home feel calm, fresh, with an injection of joy.
Feeling inspired? Here are five easy spring home refresh ideas to try now.
One of the easiest ways to refresh your home for spring is simply to open the windows. Even if it’s still a bit chilly, letting fresh air circulate for just 10–15 minutes can significantly improve indoor air quality. Ventilation helps remove pollutants, reducemoisture, and prevent that stale, stuffy feelingthat builds up over winter.
Better still, research shows that fresh air and good ventilation can improve focus, boost mood, and support better sleep, so by creating a through-breeze and opening windows on opposite sides of your home, your space can properly air out.
It’s the quickest way to make your home feel instantly lighter. And if you’re feeling productive, clean your windows too. Natural light flooding through clear glass is one of the simplest ways to make your home feel brighter for spring. You might also take the opportunity to switch out heavy curtains for a lighter weight alternative, which again will enhance the feeling of airiness and power up the natural light in your home.
A proper spring home refresh always includes reviving your soft furnishings. Over the winter our sofas, cushions, rugs and bedding take on more wear and gather more dust than we realise. Now is the perfect time to wash and revive them. A trip to the laundrette to wash the large duvet fillers and get your bed throws and cushion covers done at the same time.
It is also the time of year I’d consider switching up my duvet set for something lighter and brighter. I love my Sunset flowers set that I designed for Dunelm, as the colour palette is perfect and the perky meadow flowers have all the pretty business of Spring time. I like to take rugs and cushions outside for a good shake and beating. It’s simple, satisfying, and makes a noticeable difference. If your cushions are looking a bit flat, consider replacing the inner pads an easy upgrade. Fresh, plump cushion fillers can instantly make your sofa feel more supportive and visually fabulous.

Rearranging your furniture is one of the most effective free ways to refresh your home.
A new layout can completely change how a room feels and functions. It brings new energy into the space and helps you see your home differently. Try repositioning accent pieces like armchairs or console tables and remember pulling furniture away from walls often creates the feeling of more space and, as a bonus, it gives you the perfect excuse to clean those hidden areas you don’t normally reach.
You could even move a mirror to a different wall for a new perspective or switch your lamps to another corner of the room. Even the smallest of changes can make your home feel refreshed and re-energised for spring.
Fresh flowers are one of the easiest and most affordable ways to bring that joyful spring spirit into your home. Seasonal blooms like tulips, daffodils and hyacinths are colourful and full of life and they instantly brighten a room and add a natural, uplifting fragrance. I like to style them in simple jugs, glass tumblers or grouped arrangements across my home.
For the greener fingered among you, plant spring bulbs in a decorative planter and enjoy watching them grow and bloom over time. Flowers connect your home to the season outside, adding both colour and a sense of joy to your interiors.
Wavy edge trays, Turquoise abstract vase, Clementine fluted vase, Ribbed glass candlestick holder, Beetle ornament, Diamond cut glass trinket jar, Two tone picture frame, all Dunelm.
There is something deeply satisfying about a good declutter and spring is the perfect prompt to get started. Rather than adding more to your home, focus on editing what you already own. I always start with the shelves. Clear them right back, reduce the visual noise and give your home a chance to breathe.
Once you’ve edited, you can have real fun restyling your surfaces. A tray on a coffee table with a candle, a few books and a meaningful object or two can create a simple but beautiful focal point. Try reorganising your bookshelves and interspersing the spines with a few decorative objects or clear your kitchen worktops back to only the things you use every day. You’ll be amazed how much you fall back in love with your home.

A spring home refresh is about more than just cleaning, although I’ll be getting up to plenty of that too. It’s more about switching up your home to feel lighter, calmer and more aligned with how you want to live. Small changes can have a powerful impact on how your home looks and how it makes you feel.
