Up for going bold in the hallway?

Hallways are THE most important room in the house when it comes to interior design, and yet they are the most overlooked. They form the spine that links all the other rooms together, so picking a bold colour has many advantages, and because they aren’t really a place we tend to linger, you can go bolder than you’d otherwise dare.

The trick is to pick a colour that happily links with the other colours in your home. This helps to create a sense of coherence and flow, especially in maximalist decor. This vivid Lazuli blue (from @zoffany_fw) rolled out throughout my hallway and landing is my favourite colour and I have a little or a lot of it in all the rooms in my house. You may see it in a mirror, a cushion or within a patterned wallpaper. It’s a deep colour too but this has the magical effect that as you walk from the dark hallway, into the lighter rooms, you’ll get an uplifting and enhanced feeling of light and space.

Time to create a VISION for 2025. This is not a li

Time to create a VISION for 2025. This is not a list of resolutions, not even actionable goals but more of a slow meditative process to discover how I want this year to feel. I was in a very different place this time last year, steeped in fear and anxiety of the unknown so this year it’s wonderful to feel the mood has shifted back my usual enthusiasm and excitement, and i’m compelled towards feeling ambitious and adventurous again.

I begin by walking in nature, making time to feel grateful for everything in my life as a vision board only works i’ve discovered if it comes from a place if positivity rather than woe or lack, or fixing something broken.
I then make some notes on how I want to FEEL but the key to successful vision boarding is the images. Finding pictures that deeply resonate emotionally is the how to make this process a success and our brains process images much more powerfully than words. While tangible objects might be the thing you think you want, it’s important to identify the feeling having that thing will give you.

I will probably add the key words to my board for additional clarity but right now, I’ll wait and see if this board feels right over the next few days before i stick it down for good.
Finally position your board, somewhere you can see it everyday, to remind yourself of your priorities, remaining clear about your future direction and aligning goals, and to remind you how far you’ve come. ❤️

Before and after ➡️ Are you ready to ban the beige?

Why are bathrooms so boring? I had to live with this bland, beige, bleugh situation for five years before we got round to redoing it. I hated being in here as it felt cold, echoey and sterile.

Now it’s my perfect sanctuary in a joyful palette of reds, pinks and warm yellows. Trick is not to tile the room out, and instead use panelling and even wallpaper to soften the look. Fabric blinds at the window and rugs on the floor make it feel warm and cosy - just what I need to beat the January blues!

New year, fresh beginnings! January is the perfect

New year, fresh beginnings! January is the perfect time to refresh your space. After all the decs come down I can feel a little blue as the house looks so bare and uninspiring. Here are 8 simple ways to start the year with a home that helps you feel optimistic and renewed:

- Add a fresh pop of colour with seasonal flowers displayed in a bold vase. I supplement shop bought blooms with a few springs of foliage from the garden. Instant uplift!
- I never feel more inspired to have a good old declutter & re-organise as I do this time of year. I promise you it’s like therapy once you get started as you clear out your surfaces and cupboards and make way to create some beautiful displays!
- I’m a firm believer that you don’t need big bucks to create a beautiful home, just a little creativity and ingenuity. Look around your home and think about what’s up for a little reinvention with a lick of fresh paint or a piece of new fabric.
- There is nothing more exciting than rolling out a bold new paint colour across your walls, delivering the most bang for your buck in terms of a transformation. Think about which colour brings you the most joy and just go for it.
- With the January sales on, it’s a great opportunity to grab some fresh new bedlinen. Go for a bold pattern in a new colourway and it will totally change the look of the room. (Make sure you check out my collection at @JohnLewis while you’re at it!)
- If you don’t need to bring more into your home right now, have fun restyling the objects you already own.
- One of the best ways to kick start the new year is to take time to create a vision board for your next creative project. It’s the best time for laying plans, leaning into your creativity. Then you are ready to get going with gumption in Spring, but a clarity of vision.
