I’ve just stumbled across a fantastic new company on the web. Xylo furniture take old, well made brown furniture, that’s no longer loved or wanted, (hence very cheap) and pimped it up with gorgeous splashes of contemporary colour.
“Xylo source previously owned furniture that was created by master craftsmen using skills and techniques that are now becoming a lost art. Their pieces have aged naturally, having been treasured for generations”
The Xylo trainees are individuals with barriers to finding employment. As they restore a Xylo piece, they learn to take pride in their handicraft and share in the sense of accomplishment felt by the original craftsmen many years ago.
Xylo advocates the idea of cherishing our belongings and seeks to provide collectibles that will continue to be coveted. The trademark of a Xylo piece is the display of age-old craftsmanship and timeworn details, partnered with modern, hand-painted finishes. Items of furniture that are chosen to become Xylo products are selected because they have been made to a standard that is now rare. These unique qualities add to each item’s individual story, which has been written over time by the craftsman and trainee.”
